Willie’s dad Peter owned a general store on Callander’s Main Street, the family home was above the store which today is The Waverley Hotel. William had an older sister Jane and a brother Peter. The 1902 Ibrox disaster was the collapse of a stand at the Broomloan Road end of Ibrox Stadium .The collapse caused the deaths of 25 supporters, and injuries to 500 more during an international football match between Scotland and England on 5th April 1902 as part of the 1901–02 British Home Championship.
