The Restoration of Rangers Graves Project and Alex Young Rangers Football Club 1881-1887.

Recently we managed to locate in Beith Cemetery the final resting place of Alex Young, we subsequently carried out some restoration work.

Alexander Wisemen Young 1858 - 1926

Alex was a ‘Writer’ and was employed at 180 West Regent Street. He played for the Rangers first team during the 1881/1882 season but only managed a few appearances as he played mainly with the second eleven.

Alex made his first team debut in February 1882 in a 5-1 defeat to Dumbarton at Boghead.

On the 31st May 1886 he was appointed to serve on the committee for the 1886/87 season, he’s also mentioned in John Allan’s book ‘The Story of the Rangers’ and classed as a “Devoted worker”,his entry reads “First as a player, and later, as member of committee.

Alex is pictured here sitting next to Founder Moses McNeil on the day that our Kinning Park ground closed on 26th February 1887.

Alex Young died on the 16th June 1926 aged 67.

Thanks to the donations our Restoration of Rangers Graves Project receives from the worldwide Rangers support another Ranger has been remembered.
