The Restoration of Rangers Graves Project and President John Mellish. COMPLETE!
Earlier this year friend of the restoration project Steven Harrigan found himself working in the home of the Great Great Granddaughter of Rangers President John Mellish whom he introduced us to,prior to this we’d found the final resting place of Mr Mellish in the Western Necropolis Glasgow, sadly it was unmarked.
After visiting the plot with the Mellish family we went through the process of having the plot marked with a new and fitting stone to ensure that John Mellish was given the dignity and respect that he deserves. That was placed this week.
John Mellish was President of Rangers in 1899 when we became a limited company, soon after we appointed our first manager William Wilton,he was also vice president of the Glasgow Harriers from 1888-1889. There’s also a wonderful royal link,John Mellish was appointed vice counsel of the Dominican Republic by Queen Victoria.
This restoration was again only possible because of the generous donations that we’ve received from fellow supporters all around the country and beyond.
Today we remember Rangers President John Mellish.
